Klima is a picturesque seaside village located on the island of Milos, Greece. Famous for its vibrant, two-story fishermen’s houses known as “syrmata,” Klima offers a unique blend of history and charm. Today many of these symrata have been restored and are now available as tourist accommodations. These houses have become popular for guests since they open almost directly onto the water and have unbeatable views. So, if you’re looking for a new lodging experience, rent one out and see what it used to be like to live like a local.

How to Get There
Klima is about a 15-minute drive from the main port town of Adamas and is accessible by car or ATV. Be warned, once you turn off the main road, the local road that leads down to the town is a very steep narrow winding unpaved road. Once you reach the end, there is a parking lot just before the village for you to leave your vehicle, since the rest of the village is only accessible by foot.
Staying in Klima, Milos

The best way to rent out one of the fisherman’s houses is through Airbnb or VRBO. No two houses are the same, and although structurally similar, each has unique charm. For example, the one I stayed in, pictured above, was designed emulating a traditional cycladic home with whitewashed walls and blue accents. Unfortunately, this exact house is not listed currently in Airbnb, however the first two options listed below are located right next store. The third option is located on the opposite side of Klima and only a short walk away. All of these options are located right on the shoreline.
- This option looks great since it is two stories. You’d have both a balcony to sit on and first floor beach access.
- This option is a few doors down and has a great area to set up a table and chairs right outside.
- This option is on the quieter side of Klima away from the main shops, but still has waterfront access.
Eating in Klima, Milos

If you’re hungry in Klima, no need to do research on where to go. There is only one place to eat in the town. Astakas Cafe Restaurant is a fantastic local seafood restaurant situated directly on the beach. It has great views of the water and a relaxed laid back feel that embodies the vibe of Klima.
Things to do in Klima, Milos

- Watch the Sunset – This is one of the most popular things to do in Klima. In the late afternoon, people come out onto their balconies and patios, pour a drink and sit back to watch the sunset. Many tourists also come at this time to take photos and enjoy the beautiful view.
- Go Shopping – Along the coastline, there are a few local shops mixed in with the syrmata. By no means should you come to Klima for a full shopping day, but the shops are fun to meander through as you explore the town.
- Go to the Beach – Klima has a very small beach with sandy shore. Compared to the wildly impressive beaches of Milos, this one is small and quaint. But, it’s a very nice place to sit for a snack or for sunset if you’re in town.
Know Before You Go

- Wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet – The path to walk through Klima is right on the coastline. So much so, that if it happens to be high tide, the water will splash up and onto the walkway. You won’t be wading in feet of water, but your shoes will definitely get wet.
- Tourists vs. locals – Although the syrmata are mostly rented out to tourists, the village is a mix of both tourists and locals. Milos is a less popular island for American visitors and therefore unlike Santorini, don’t expect everyone to speak English.
- Can get busy at sunset – If you’re going to take photos or enjoy Milos at sunset, go early! The tiny town fills up and you’ll want to secure your spot.

Klima, Milos is the perfect place to step away from the hustle and bustle and spend a day living simply. If you’re looking for a truly unique stay, book a fisherman’s house for your accommodations and experience how the locals used to live.
